NPBiS - Nebraska Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support
HOW TO GET STARTED
Interested in implementing PBS for your school? First of all, congratulations. You're at the beginning of a great decision; PBS is proven to increase positive behaviors, decrease negative behaviors, facilitate learning, and uses research on effective professional development that results in classroom implementation.
To get started, we recommend contacting the NPBiS Project Coordinator for specific details on how your school or district can participate. We also encourage you to contact one of the many Nebraska schools already engaged in NPBiS implementation. You can find some contacts of participating schools on the contact page.
Consult the PBS Training Plan below and the Readiness Checklists for more detailed information on the process of implementing the program.
State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) Information
NPBiS is made possible by a State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG). The Nebraska Department of Education received an SPDG to improve systems for providing education and early intervention forall children. The goals of this grant are two-fold: (1) professional development activities that support positive behavior and result in improved performance and increased achievement for children with disabilities and also their non-disabled peers; and (2) coordinate related professional development efforts across systems.
SPDG funds will provide:
- Participant stipends when applicable
- Mileage reimbursement
- Lodging and meals when applicable
- Professional development support
- Building level sub grants to support implementation efforts
Steps to Implementation:
- Solicit and build a site based leadership team who is willing to assist NDE with data collection for their school.
- Leadership Team (LT) attends B.E.S.T. I Training (Building Effective Schools Together) – Two Day Training.
- LT creates an action plan incorporating PBS and instructional strategies – Sub grants are provided by NDE to support each site’s implementation needs.
- LT meets on a regular basis to review data and progress toward goals.
- LT members replicate training and/or participates in a Community of Practice for building staff after participating in intensive professional development.
